This is the third series of The Smashing Book and the first Smashing Book that has a theme (as you know, both of Smashing Book #1 and #2 didn’t have it). The theme is “Redesign The Web“. I think one of reason for that theme is maybe because not long before this book was published, Smashing Magazine did overhaul redesign their website. This book also come with the extension book which is called Smashing Book #3⅓.
Seriously, I love the cover design for this book. Especially for the extension book with blue added color, I really love that. They made an article about process when designing those books cover. I little bit disappointed with the material for cover which is flexcover, I prefer hardcover like on Smashing Book #2, well it’s okay than paperback like Smashing Book #1.
The size for Smashing Book #3 is 16.5 × 24.0 cm (6.5 × 9.5 inches), I feel it big.. The extension book itself is smaller than the main book which around 14.0 × 21.0 cm (5.5 × 8.3 inches). It feels more compact to me.
The Smashing Book #3 and #3⅓ are all about Redesign The Web.The main book consists of theoretical and practical stuff for redesigning web, while its extension is more focus on theoretical side.
The extension book contains some of additional information that should also consider when redesigning the web like storytelling, navigation and content for your website. Don’t forget that this book also has a case study which tell us the process about redesigning the Smashing Magazine website.
If you want to redesign your website, maybe you should consider to buy these books. For me, these two books are like my new guidelines when I want to redesign or even build new website. Those two books are independent each other so you can just buy one of them if you like. But, of course it will be perfect if you buy all of them..
You can buy the books in their shop. If you already buy them please tell me what’s your thought about these books.
